Johanna Neilson Boynton

Ownership

Johanna Neilson Boynton, has been a women’s hockey pioneer since she started playing pond hockey with the boys in first grade.  She played on the first women’s team at St. Paul’s School and was recruited to play at Harvard where she was a 2-time captain and winner of the Ivy League championship in 1987 and 1988.  She served as co-chair of the Friends of Harvard Hockey for nearly two decades during which time she was instrumental in attracting funding and supporting the growth of the women’s program.  She and her family coordinated billets for the 2014 US Women’s Olympic Team that trained near her home in Concord, Massachusetts, and she worked with USA Hockey to establish the Sochi Family Fund which enabled the families of US players to travel to Sochi, Russia to see their daughters realize their Olympic dreams.  Hockey has been a central part of her life and she was thrilled by the opportunity to get involved with the Toronto Six.

Digit Murphy is a visionary, innovator, and builder with a lifetime of experience in the women's sports world. In April 2020 she accepted a role as the President of the first National Women’s Hockey League franchise in Canada — The Toronto Six.

Prior to joining the Six, Murphy helped a KHL professional hockey organization, the Kunlun Red Star, build women’s hockey in China in preparation for the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Under Murphy, the Red Star reached the Canadian Women’s Hockey League final — Murphy’s fourth appearance in the final, including two Clarkson Cup championships with the Boston Blades in 2013 and 2015. While coaching professionally, and as head coach of Division I Brown University for 18 seasons, Murphy has coached Olympians and All-Americans and earned numerous awards and honours. Murphy was awarded the 2013-14 CWHL coach of the year, was the first NCAA female coach to reach 200 wins, has Cornell’s women’s hockey MVP award named in her honour, and was inducted into the International Scholar Athlete Hall of Fame for her work as both a coach and player. A key component to Murphy’s coaching philosophy is her belief in the growth of women’s presence in ice hockey and coaching — a passion she incorporates into all her work.

Alongside Aronda Kirby, Murphy founded a professional Women's Lacrosse (The UWLX) in 2016 and is presently the founder of Proven Winners — a company that connects athletes and corporations. Murphy is a tireless advocate for women’s hockey, women’s sport, and women in general, and is proud to fight for the future of women’s professional hockey as president and coach of the Six.

Krysti Clarke

General Manager @KrystiClarke

With an MBA from McKendree University, Clarke brings a wealth of experience to her role of General Manager with the Toronto Six Hockey Club. Joining from York United FC in the Canadian Premier League, Krysti worked as Manager of Operations, a role where she provided daily and game-day operational leadership. During a three-year stay, Clarke was also largely responsible for industry research, benchmarking and operational leadership. As a versatile member of the club’s staff, Clarke collaborated closely with other senior leaders to provide data-driven insights to inform strategic business planning and decision-making. Expanding her portfolio with the league’s first Canadian franchise, Clarke succeeds Mandy Cronin as the second GM in Toronto Six history. In doing so, she’s responsible for game day event management, player activities, team operations and logistics. This includes selling tickets and adding sponsors, which she will take charge of and report to Digit Murphy. Now, as she broadens her horizons, Clarke said she’s elated to be involved in the fight for women’s hockey. “I am excited and honoured to have the opportunity to join this history-making team as the General Manager,” she said. “I bring with me lessons learned from another sport that will help with reimagining our approach to and vision of the game. With this legendary crew, I know we can work together to make meaningful change within the world of hockey and women's sport.”

Mark Joslin

Between five teams in the Ontario Junior Hockey League and working as a scout in the Ontario Hockey League, Joslin, who is highly spoken of, brings an eye for talent and development to the Six. Mixing his love of business and hockey, Joslin is an entrepreneur who can help to further a players’ all around game. With his dedication to growth and excellence at all levels, that, in 2003, led him to officially launching Joslin Elite Hockey Training. Building on that further with various schools and OJHL clubs, Joslin, in 2007, led the Dudley Hewitt Champion Aurora Tigers. The same year, with the team as an assistant coach, they were also recognized as Royal Bank Champions. Serving as Head Coach and General Manager of the Toronto Patriots, Joslin, in 2018, was named by the league as Executive of the Year. Now chasing the Isobel Cup as head coach of the Toronto Six, Joslin was delighted to take on his latest challenge and said he can’t wait to get going and be a part of something special. “It’s exciting and I’m looking forward to it and I love the support staff, Digit and others. I think it’s a great organization and I just want to come in and help and hopefully make a difference for all these young ladies.”

Angela James

Assistant Coach @AngelaJames8

Widely considered the first superstar in women’s hockey, Angela James is a pioneer and trailblazer, being the first and only Black woman to captain Canada’s National Women’s team. On the ice representing her country, James is a four-time gold medalist and was named a recipient of the Order of Hockey in Canada. Additionally, she played 18 years in the Central Ontario Women’s Hockey League, where she was named MVP six times and led the league in scoring eight times. Following a transition to the National Women’s Hockey League, she earned MVP honours in her first season and won a league championship the next year with the Beatrice Aeros. Retiring from competitive hockey soon after, James was tabbed to coach by Hockey Canada, winning a gold medal as an assistant at the 1999 Canada Winter Games. As a head coach in 2001, she led Team Canada en route to a gold medal at the U18 National Championship. Leaving an illustrious mark behind her, James broke a barrier in 2010 as the first woman to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Among the most decorated in the game, she’s also a member of the IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame, as well as the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame. Now, as she helps to push the game further, James says she’s honoured to have the chance to join the Six. “It means a lot to me to have an opportunity to coach the girls and be a part of the progression and advancement of the women’s game to pro status and beyond," she said. "I grew up playing elite hockey after college and all women should have that same opportunity. Hockey is Hockey. We have a talented team, great coaches and a great administration. I look forward to working with everyone and being apart of the Toronto Six and more especially, winning.”
